Dear bookish friends,
Happy fifth day of Christmas! If you received five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree today, we offer you the best of luck regarding those animals (Pears would be nice, though, and calling birds seem interesting, I suppose.). Beware of the golden rings, however, or you might have to go on an adventure like Sam and Frodo did. To be or not to be a Hobbit. . . to have an adventure or not to have one. Hmm. An adventure seems like the courageous option, but, I don’t know about you, my own little Hobbiton seems perfect during this Christmas season.
We have a little Christmas gift for you! The new year arrives in a few days, and so now is the best time to plan your reading for 2024. Click here to print off our complimentary 2024 book list template to fill out.
As for book clubs, we are starting our first book club for middle-school girls in January. Although we already have a list of girls interested in the book club, we are happy to add more. If your middle-school daughter wants to join, please email us at inklingbookstx@gmail.com or message/call us at 2106274221 by next Saturday (January 6th) so that we can plan the day & time best for everyone. Our first book will be Eight Cousins, by Louisa May Alcott (author of Little Women), and I (Julea) will lead our monthly book clubs. We are looking forward to sipping tea and talking about Rose & her seven cousins! Just to note, we will have more information about a book club for adult women in next week’s newsletter.
I’ll end with some words from Chesterton. “The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. Unless a man starts on the strange assumption that he has never existed before, it is quite certain that he will never exist afterwards. Unless a man be born again, he shall by no means enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.”
That’s all. Goodnight and farewell till next time.
Sincerely,
